MEET SAMARA

I was born in New Mexico and grew up east of The Sandias. If we were not getting lost in the mountains with the horses, my mom was drawing and painting. Her birds, deer, mountain lions, and horses still live in friend's and family's homes. As a kid my mom would hand me paper and pencil to entertain myself while she created. I never stopped drawing but as I got older I gave it less attention. Between my career and moving, relationships and bills, it seemed less important to make art. It has been 10 years since my mom said goodbye after a 6 year fight with cancer. And now it has become obvious that art and creating must be a priority. It's a reconnection with her every time I pick up a brush. It is a few tiny steps towards healing. And it is something that I hope will forever live on in memory of her.
